TANGO DEVELOPMENT LABORATORY
at the Phillips Recreation Center
505 W Stoughton, Urbana

Fall 2012 Session 1
Thursdays August 30 - October 4, 2012

Tango Development Laboratory is an instructional environment that focuses on the development of basic skills needed to dance tango with competence in the social environment of the milongas. Tango Society instructors Ron Weigel & Susana Vazquez Weigel and their teaching assistants will guide you in learning Tango Milonguero, the tango danced by tens of thousands of people in the miloongas of Buenos Aires, Argentina, the birthplace of tango, as well as by many more dancers around the world.

The Fall 2012 Session 1 of the Tango Development Lab begins with a Tango Orientation Workshop that includes an Introductory Tango Lesson and a Pre-Intermediate Tango Preparatory Lesson. This is followed by 5-week courses providing tango instruction at the beginner and pre-intermediate levels. Between classes there is practice time allocated to encourage dancers at both levels to mingle. Some students in the Pre-Intermediate Tango class also participate in the beginner level Foundations of Tango course. In addition, upon approval of the instructors, some enrollees in the Foundations course that show promise may also participate in the Pre-Intermediate level course at no additional charge.

Listed below is the schedule for the current session.

FIND YOUR TANGO LEVEL!!

The Tango Orientation Workshop provides an introduction to tango and also enables you to find the level of instruction appropriate for your current skill level. Most people will take the 'Introduction to Tango' lesson (providing a preview of our Foundations of Tango course), but people with prior social dance experience (some Argentine Tango, ballroom dance, swing, salsa, folk dancing) or performance dance training (ballet, modern dance) should also try the 'Pre-Intermediate Tango Preparation' lesson to determine if they would be comfortable with entering the pre-intermediate level of instruction (Fundamentals of Navigation course). [Recomended: Co-registration in Foundations of Tango and Fundamentals of Navigation courses in Tango Development Lab (see below).

7:00 - 8:10 PM - Introduction to Tango
(No prior tango experience required)

This lesson is for newcomers to tango, or for those who have not previously studied with Ron & Susana (which enables you to understand their approach to learning tango). It is also a preview / review of the upcoming Foundations of Tango course.

8:20 - 9:30 PM: Pre-Intermediate Tango Preparation

This workshop is a review of the latter part of the Foundations of Tango syllabus, allowing assessment of preparedness for the upcoming Pre-Intermediate Tango course.
